Exploration
Todd Energy has been a leading New Zealand oil and gas explorer for over 70 years. Our exploration programme is focused on searching for new gas and oil reserves for the security of New Zealand's future energy supply.
Todd Energy has a focused exploration strategy concentrated within the Taranaki Basin. This geological province underlies the Taranaki Peninsula and extends offshore from the top of the South Island to just south of Auckland. The basin holds all of New Zealand’s commercial oil and gas discoveries, which are supported with a well-developed production, processing and transport infra-structure.
While actively managing our current permits, Todd Energy is continually re-evaluating and assessing new opportunities to ensure a secure energy supplies for New Zealanders into the future.
Taranaki basin
Todd Energy has interests in and is operator of six petroleum exploration permits, in both onshore and offshore environments. In three of those permits Todd holds 100% equity, while in the remaining three Todd is joint-ventured with other exploration companies. Todd also has interests in a further two petroleum exploration permits as non-operator.
New ventures
Todd Energy's exploration team regularly investigates new business opportunities in the Taranaki and other New Zealand basins, either by evaluating farm-ins offered by other companies or participating in study groups to assess Block Offers and Acreage Releases.
International activities
Todd is involved in exploration (and production) activities internationally through a 27 percent shareholding in Cue Energy Resources Limited in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and in Australia's Carnarvon Basin. In addition, Todd continuously evaluates international new ventures exploration opportunities.
Exploration teams
Todd Energy conducts its exploration efforts through teams located in Wellington and New Plymouth. The teams are integrated with and supported by specialists in petroleum and reservoir engineering, drilling and production operations, facilities engineering and project management. The teams use industry standard software applications including Landmark and SMT geophysical and geological interpretation systems.
