Exploration

Todd Energy group companies hold ten petroleum exploration permits (both on and offshore)Historically, exploration for oil and gas in New Zealand has been largely concentrated in Taranaki Basin.

This large sedimentary basin underlies the Taranaki Peninsula and extends offshore from the top of the South Island to just south of Auckland. All commercial oil and gas discoveries in New Zealand are located in the Taranaki Basin and well-developed oil and gas infrastructure exists in and around New Plymouth.

Currently Todd Energy's petroleum acreage in the Taranaki Basin includes interests in six petroleum mining permits and Todd Energy also holds a further ten As well as managing our current permits, Todd Energy is constantly re-evaluating and assessing new opportunitiespetroleum exploration permits (both onshore and offshore). Of the ten Taranaki Basin exploration permits, Todd Energy operates two on a 100% basis - the northern offshore permit PEP 38602, containing the Karewa gas discovery, and the onshore permit PEP 51156. A further two permits are operated by Todd Energy in joint venture with other exploration companies - PEP 38494 in the offshore southern Taranaki Basin, and PEP 51149 onshore western Taranaki Peninsula. The other six exploration permits are held in non-operated joint ventures.

Recently, other sedimentary basins in New Zealand such as the Great South Basin have increasingly come under the spotlight as explorers search further afield. Along with extensive interests in Taranaki permits Todd Energy also holds exploration permit PEP 50117 in the Great South Basin in partnership with ExxonMobil. As technology advances and explorers develop new exploration methods, previously overlooked, discounted or under-explored areas can become feasible exploration targets. As well as managing our current permits, Todd Energy is constantly re-evaluating and assessing new opportunities.

Todd Energy group companies hold and operate five exploration permits on a 100% basisTodd Energy's team of experienced exploration geoscience professionals is backed by in-house specialists in fields of petroleum engineering, facilities engineering and project management, drilling, well services and production operations, as well as state-of-the-art computer hardware and software such as Landmark and SMT geophysical and geological interpretation systems.
