Todd Energy’s new state-of-the-art McKee Mangahewa Operations Facility will be officially opened today by Minister of Energy and Resources, the Hon Dr Megan Woods.
The $12m operations facility is located at the McKee Mangahewa Production Station in Tikorangi, North Taranaki, and will house Todd Energy’s production station employees. The
project was completed over the last 14 months by contractors from across Taranaki. The operations facility provides a purpose-built office for Todd’s production operations, linking a
new control centre to the existing Production Station. The facility was completed with no health or safety incidents, on time and within budget.
The McKee Mangahewa Production Station is Todd Energy’s largest onshore natural gas production station and its production contributes significantly to New Zealand’s annual natural gas supply.
The new 940m2 operations facility was designed and constructed to meet very high wind and earthquake loads using cross laminated timber panels. Cross laminated timber is a relatively new construction technology, providing strength and endurance without compromising on environmental performance. It also resulted in a reduction in construction time when compared to traditional steel and masonry construction methods and significantly reduced the amount of traffic on the road.
Dr Joanna Breare said “The operations facility supports significant economic benefits and helps to deliver security of natural gas supply to meet the country’s energy demands. We remain focused on meeting the energy demands of New Zealand and supporting the energy transition”. Dr Joanna Breare acknowledged the companies and contractors who provided equipment and services for the construction and the Tikorangi community for their support and understanding during the project.
